MPL–PH Season 7: Grand Finals Race Heats Up

The penultimate day of MPL–PH Season 7 delivered high-stakes action as the first Grand Final berth was claimed and one more team saw their journey end. Only three squads remain—Blacklist International, Execration, and Aura PH—heading into the final day of playoffs.

Upper Bracket Final: Blacklist International vs. Aura PH

Blacklist International became the first Grand Finalist of the season and secured the Philippines’ first qualified spot for MSC 2021 by taking down Aura PH in a four-game series. Aura PH, known for pioneering the Diggie strategy, surprisingly left the hero open in every game, allowing OhMyV33nus to pick it freely. While Aura showed early promise with early kills in Games 1 and 2, Blacklist’s superior map control quickly shut them down, taking a 2–0 lead. Aura bounced back in Game 3 with a dominant map-wide performance, but Blacklist readjusted in Game 4. Wise’s Aldous and Edward’s Benedetta dismantled Aura’s defenses, sealing the series 3–1 and sending Aura to the lower bracket.

Lower Bracket: Execration Reverse Sweeps Bren Esports

Execration pulled off a stunning reverse sweep against Bren Esports, eliminating the Season 6 champions in a five-game thriller. Bren struck first, deploying FlapTzy on Gloo and showing championship-level form to take Games 1 and 2. Execration, however, refused to fold. In Game 3—the longest playoff match of the season at 50 minutes—Ch4knu’s Khufra landed clutch Tyrant’s Revenge set-ups to spark a comeback win. That momentum carried into Games 4 and 5, where Execration’s methodical rotations and perfect pickoffs overwhelmed Bren, completing the 3–2 reversal and knocking Bren out of the tournament.
