007 First Light Switch 2 Release – Progress and Updates

IO Interactive has confirmed that development of the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is progressing well and remains on track for a summer release. The game launched on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation at the end of May, with the Switch 2 port delayed for additional optimisation. IOI senior licensing producer Theuns Smit noted “really good progress on the optimisation side” and said the team is prioritising performance and quality to ensure the port meets player expectations. A specific release date has not yet been announced.

007 First Light serves as a reimagined origin story for James Bond, starring Patrick Gibson as a young, inexperienced secret agent. The gameplay blends stealth, combat, and driving sections, with a tone reminiscent of IOI’s Hitman series but with a more action-focused bent. The game sold approximately 2.7 million copies in its first week. Player data from IOI revealed that wine bottles were the most frequently thrown projectile, accounting for 36 percent of all thrown items, while 34 million missions were started and roughly 30 percent successfully completed.

Reception and future support

Eurogamer awarded the game four stars, praising its “excellent fistfights and oodles of charm,” though it was noted as less cerebral and replayable than IOI’s World of Assassination trilogy. IO Interactive has indicated significant post-release plans, with additional content or support expected.
