Pokémon TCG Pocket Ultra Beast Flag Datamine: What’s Next?
Datamine Uncovers Ultra Beast Flag
Recent datamining of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s game files has revealed a new per-card flag: “IsUltraBeast”: false. While currently set to false for all existing cards, the presence of this flag strongly indicates that Ultra Beasts will be introduced in a future update. The timing aligns with the ongoing Celestial Guardians expansion, which focuses on the Alola region from Pokémon Sun and Moon, and the upcoming A3a mini set scheduled for release on May 29, 2025 at 06:00 UTC. A subsequent A3b set is also possible, further extending the Ultra Beast theme.
Full Roster and Potential Phased Release
There are 11 canonical Ultra Beasts tied to Alola: Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, and Blacephalon. Notably, Poipole evolves into Naganadel, making it the only evolutionary line among the group. However, several Ultra Beasts possess dual types not yet supported by Pokémon TCG Pocket—for example, Nihilego is Rock/Poison, and Buzzwole is Bug/Fighting. Given these type limitations, it is likely that only a subset of Ultra Beasts will be added initially, with the rest arriving in later waves or via type workarounds.
Each Ultra Beast in the datamine is accompanied by Pokédex-style flavor text and dedicated card assets. For instance, Nihilego (UB-01 Symbiont) parasitically boosts its host’s abilities using a neurotoxin, while Buzzwole (UB-02 Absorption) swells its body by absorbing energy, and Pheromosa (UB-02 Beauty) moves at over 120 mph while emitting disorienting pheromones. The remaining Ultra Beasts follow similar patterns of unique lore and abilities, such as Xurkitree discharging a million volts, Celesteela propelling itself with flammable gas, and Guzzlord consuming everything in its path.
