EverQuest II Nagafen Server Returns – PvP Beta Launch
Daybreak Games recently surprised the EverQuest II community by announcing the revival of the retired Nagafen server as a free-for-all PvP seasonal beta. Borrowing heavily from the earlier Deathtoll server, this iteration features scoreboards, free trade, a one-character-per-account limit, and rebalanced stats. The plan was to launch the server for subscribers on February 5, but a last-minute patching issue forced a one-day delay.
A Bumpy Start
Daybreak acknowledged the problem via social media, explaining that an issue preventing players from properly updating the game was to blame. Engineers scrambled to resolve the glitch, and the company promised updates as soon as possible. The delay itself was minor, but the community’s reaction in the official EverQuest II Discord left a far worse impression.
Community Conduct
Moderation action quickly became necessary in the dedicated Nagafen channel, where a string of bannings occurred. The most striking example: players arranged emoji to form a homophobic slur directed at a Daybreak moderator. The incident underscored the toxic fringe that often gravitates toward unrestricted PvP environments. It’s a reminder that even as the developers strive to deliver a chaotic PvP sandbox, the worst elements of the playerbase sometimes refuse to leave their baggage at the login screen.
Launch at Last
True to its revised schedule, Daybreak pushed Nagafen live the following afternoon. The server is now open to subscribers, and PvP enthusiasts can finally jump into the free-for-all carnage. Whether the community can keep the toxicity in check remains to be seen, but for now, the dead server has risen. Whether it stays alive is up to the players.
