Elden Ring Nightreign: Co-Op Speedrun Fantasy

I’ve spent hundreds of hours in Elden Ring’s Lands Between, but nothing prepared me for the breakneck pace of Nightreign. FromSoftware’s standalone co-op spin-off doesn’t just repackage the original—it turbocharges it. Game director Junya Ishizaki calls it a ‘condensed RPG experience,’ and after six hours with a preview build, I can confirm that’s exactly what it delivers. Instead of a sprawling open-world campaign, each match is a tight three-player session structured as a three-day cycle. Every in-game day lasts about 15 minutes, and by the end of it, a shrinking ‘ring of reign’ forces you into a randomized boss fight. Think of it as Elden Ring meets a roguelike speedrun, with maps, enemy placements, and end-of-day bosses shuffled every run.

      A Three-Day Sprint

You start each round at level one, dropped into an alternate-reality Limgrave where familiar landmarks are rearranged and new threats lurk everywhere. The goal is simple: gather runes, weapons, and HP flasks as fast as possible before the ring closes. On day one, you and your squad can explore freely, marking points of interest on the map. But once the ring tightens, the real tension hits—stay outside and acid rain will melt you. Trigger the day’s boss, survive it, and the ring rescinds for day two, giving you a breather before the next, harder fight. I faced a tag-team of Demi-Human Queen and Swordmaster, a brutal Draconian Tree Sentinel with Carian Knights, and the horrifying new Centipede Demon, a limb-swarm that detaches body parts to flank you. Each three-day cycle builds toward one of eight major bosses, and the randomization keeps every session fresh.
